Words From TFA's Managing Director and Founder, Paul Holdgate

Welcome to TFA!

Soccer, or football as it is called around the globe, is a beautiful game when played with passion, skill and intelligence. This is why it’s the most popular sport in the world!

TFA is represented through the following age groups:  Developmental Academy (5-8 years of age), Junior Academy (8-10), Youth Academy (11-14) and High School Academy (15-19).

TFA is designed for players who are developing a true passion for the game, possess a strong desire to learn, want high-level professional coaching and instruction, are willing to work on improving their play, and have the character to develop leadership skills. In addition, TFA emphasizes the importance of responsibility and accountability in the player. This will lead to greater maturity in the person so that they will develop more ownership of their actions, decision-making and self-control, in soccer and in life.

At TFA, we are committed to creating an environment where our Academy members can develop these qualities and experience all the joy that soccer has to offer them. Our coaching staff consists of independent (non-parent), professional, nationally-licensed coaches, some of whom are former college and professional players.

Throughout TFA’s structure you will find:

  • Players are members of TFA - The Club - not specifically tied to one team. This allows fluidity and support between teams/age groups.
  • Consistency in our colors, which means uniformity in appearance for all players and staff. We are one family of footballers, all wearing the same colors, playing with passion for the TFA badge!

All staff follows a structured curriculum that allows our players to be coached within a similar style. This provides our players with consistent preparation, terminology, tactics and overall playing/training philosophy among our squads, encouraging 'The TFA Way'.

In addition, TFA is the first organization in Northwest Ohio to start a TOPSoccer Program. TOPSoccer is a national program run through US Youth Soccer, serving children and adults facing emotional and/or physical challenges. Toledo TOPSoccer was born in the fall of 2015 and continues its growth and passion for sharing the game of soccer through key licensed professionals, TFA players and staff, and anyone interested in volunteering. For more information, visit www.toledotopsoccer.org.

If your soccer player is interested in TFA, and has been chosen by the Academy’s professional coaching staff at our tryouts, please make sure both the player and the parent read the expectations (click here to view). You can also find additional information about TFA in "The TFA Way" section of this website.  This ensures that everyone is aware of TFA’s high expectations.

Thank you for your interest in TFA.
